Abortion
It is time that we as a society put aside the ideologically weighted pro life and pro choice descriptions of one another, and focus on the real problem of abortion; this society does nothing to dissuade women from seeking abortions. No one is for abortion. The question is what can be done to minimize the number of abortions. Punitive solutions such as those proposed by Republicans and the Catholic hierarchy have not in the past had any significant effect on reducing abortion. If legislative provisions were made to adequately safeguard women from the economic and other emotionally wrenching consequences of unwanted pregnancies, women would not feel the need to have an abortion. Instead of denying women the right to make decisions about their bodies and their own best interests, why not have a society that would adequately provide for their well being and that of their children.
