Every day, all day, we hear what is being said by the presidential candidates and the analysis, or not, of what they are saying. It is all about what each is saying they will do if elected and how the other candidates are deficient—or maybe liars or even potential criminals. For example, “I will build the biggest wall ever built and the Mexicans will pay for it”. So whether you agree with the statement or not it is repeated over and over as a real and legitimate goal. People applaud and it is presented by the media as real, and not as abysmally stupid.
We seldom hear of the accomplishments of the candidates. For example, one candidate’s accomplishments are “I am rich, very rich, and I know how to manage a business”. That such a statement has nothing to do with what is required to be president is never broached. So, what is really needed is a discussion of the accomplishments of all of the candidates, and there are important accomplishments beyond being a manager or a CEO, and beyond being rich, very rich. If the Third Estate is to protect the interests of the voting public, helping us know and understand the candidates beyond the candidates’ words about what they will do and what they say they have accomplished should be a major effort.
